This is a common summer visitor to my home and it's always a thrill to see them.  This bird is a male in his beautiful spring plumage.
The bird is carved out of tupelo wood and painted with acrylic paints. 
The branch is painted brass.
The base is cedar and oak.
This carving was Best of Show at 2004 Wonders in Wood Carving Competition.

Some birds are so common that we sometimes take them for granted even when they have spectacular color like this male goldfinch.   This bird is carved from tupelo wood, painted with acrylic paints and mounted on a branch.  The base is cedar.

The Northern Parula is the
smallest of North America's
wood warblers.  In the north it frequently nests
in Usnea Lichen or Old Man's Beard.  The moss in this carving represents the Usnea Lichen.  In southern states the Parula nests in similar looking  Spanish Moss.
